GMP - AN OVERVIEW
The term GMP has now been used for around 60 years and stands for Good Manufacturing Practice. In order to achieve the greatest possible consumer protection, GMP is understood to be a comprehensive quality assurance system which must be adhered to in the manufacture of certain products.
Originally, GMP rules were created for medicinal products, since – in the case of inferior quality – these products pose great risks to humans or animals. GMP rules have gradually been transferred to other industrial and production sectors where products are used on humans or animals.
